Mahindra, known for its rugged SUVs and off-roaders, is now charging into the electric future with an aggressive plan for Mahindra EV expansion in India. With the success of the XUV400 EV and the unveiling of its futuristic BE and XUV.e series, Mahindra aims to take on the growing electric vehicle segment head-on. Combining Indian innovation with global tech partnerships, Mahindra’s EV roadmap is rooted in high performance, sustainability, and bold design.

XUV400 EV: India’s Homegrown Electric SUV

The Mahindra XUV400 is currently the company’s only mass-market electric SUV on sale. It is based on the XUV300 but comes with a longer wheelbase and revised design. Powered by a 39.4 kWh battery, it offers a claimed 456 km range (MIDC) and delivers a peppy driving experience thanks to its 150 PS electric motor. It supports fast charging and comes with multiple driving modes, a 7-inch touchscreen with connectivity features, and standard safety tech like six airbags, ESC, and all-wheel disc brakes. The XUV400 starts from around ₹15.99 lakh, making it one of the most accessible long-range EVs in India.

BE Series: Born Electric SUVs With Futuristic Design

Mahindra’s upcoming BE (Born Electric) range is set to hit the roads starting 2025. These SUVs are built from the ground up on the brand-new INGLO platform, which supports fast charging, all-wheel drive, and advanced battery tech. The BE lineup includes BE.05, BE.07, and BE.09, featuring radical coupe-inspired styling, full-width LED lighting, massive screens inside, and ADAS support. These vehicles will cater to tech-savvy buyers looking for an emotional design and clean mobility.

XUV.e Series: Familiar Mahindra DNA With Electric Power

Parallel to the BE series, Mahindra is also preparing to launch the XUV.e8 and XUV.e9, electric versions of its popular XUV700. These EVs will share design cues with their ICE counterparts but offer new interiors, improved aerodynamics, and high-range battery packs. The XUV.e8 is expected to launch in late 2024, followed by XUV.e9 as a sportier coupe-SUV with enhanced performance figures. Both models will feature LFP battery tech, dual motor AWD, and Level 2+ ADAS.

Mahindra EV Tech: INGLO Platform and Global Expertise

At the heart of Mahindra’s EV push lies the INGLO (Indian Global) platform, co-developed with Volkswagen’s MEB architecture, which allows flexibility in battery sizing, fast charging (up to 175 kW), and 5G-enabled connected car tech. The brand is also focusing on sustainability with recycled materials, bio-based plastics, and carbon-neutral production. The upcoming EVs will come equipped with over-the-air updates, driver monitoring, adaptive LED lighting, and ultra-flat floors for more cabin space.
